 Aishwarya Rai :Even before Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s next film Talisman goes on the floor, a controversy has reared its ugly head over the female lead of the film.
Vidhu Vinod, Reliance Big Entertainment team and Amitabh Bachchan recently met regarding the casting of the heroine of the film. The film is an adaptation of the novel Chandrakanta. It will be directed by ad filmmaker Ram Madhvani, stars Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt, who plays the villain in the film. Sources from the Reliance team claim that Amitabh was keen that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan be chosen to play the lead as she was superb in the role of queen Jodha in Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodhaa Akbar. Chandrakanta is a princess of a kingdom and the film is a fantasy story. Bachchan felt that the role would suit Aishwarya perfectly. But Vidhu Vinod is not keen on signing Aishwarya for the role and was adamant on casting Deepika Padukone instead. The source even went on to add that the meeting between the three went on for hours and Vidhu Vinod insisted that Aishwarya would not fit the character and that Deepika was young and fresh and would suit the role perfectly. He even wanted to take a newcomer but not Aishwarya at any cost as she had refused his earlier film, Kareeb, for which he signed on Neha eventually. He had also approached Aishwarya for Parineeta but she was busy so had to turn down the role. Now, it remains to be seen who will be cast as Chandrakanta.
