Shah Rukh Khan and director Priyadarshan are racing ahead to complete their film Billoo Barber in order to release it before the Tamil version, Kuselan starring Rajnikant releases.
Insiders from the industry claim Shah Rukh, who was first busy with Om Shanti Om and then with the IPL matches, is now very keen to wrap work on this film. However, Kuselan’s makers have completed their film and have even released the music of the film on June 20. The film is produced by K. Balachander and directed by P. Vasu. It is said that Shah Rukh is now targeting the film for a Diwali release, whereas Kuselan may release at the end of August. The film is a modern take on the Krishna and Sudama folklore. Billoo Barber is remake of the Malayalam film, Katha Parayumbol, starring Sreenivasan and Mammootty. In this film Irrfan Khan reprises Sreenivasan’s role and Shah Rukh Mammootty’s. Shah Rukh plays an actor brought up in a village but moves on to become a superstar in the city. Irrfan plays his childhood friend, who has grown up to become the village barber. After having drifted apart, the two meet again when a film unit camps at the village to shoot for a film. SRK romances three women in the film — Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. Kareena and Deepika play cameos as two Bollywood leading ladies vying for SRK’s attention. Lara Dutta, after much ado about the casting plays Billoo Barber’s wife.
