Kattuviriyan movie review-average

The subject horror has not been explored well in Tamil Films, but if it would have been done more better then  surely it would have been a true winner at the box office.

Cast: Ram, Malavika, Alex and others

Direction: Kalaipuli Sekaran

Music: G Sekhar

Production: Mathu. K

This can be proved by Chandramukhi which was a mixture of horror and drama. The viewers also now are in a thirst of a new concept in every film they watch and if it is flavored by Horror and thrill then the audience will be glued to their seats and finally will give a good mouth talk to others. Kattuviryan is one such horror film which deals with the horror subject very sensibly and also carves it in an interesting way.

Story

Kattuviryan is fully a mysterious and drama added film and will definetly be a nightmare for weak hearted people. It is about a huge bungalow which is assumed to be ever surrounded by evil spirits and becomes a haunting place. The film’s first frame begins with the story about a man which is played by Dr .Raj who grows up believing with the seed of hatred towards women in his mind. He is against the women of the society. The reason is because of his mother and father quarrelsome relationship which makes them live separately and as a result his father commits suicide. The suicide creates a big impact in the mind of the man (Dr.Raj) and he begins to suspect every woman whom he comes across and he becomes cynic towards women with only one thinking and that is he keeps on suspecting the character of every women he befriends with.

The man is so much vexed with the women kind that he walks out of the arranged marriage with Malavika, who plays a dual role for the very first time in her entire Tamil film career.

Fortunately, Malavika meets Raj after few years and is now a deputy commissioner of police and is also blessed with a daughter who also happens to be Malavika. She visits the place of living of Raj i.e. the bungalow and on the whole, observes that something is wrong in the house and also fishes out something strange and unusual is happening behind them in the bungalow.

When she discloses it to Raj, he immediately puts the blame on the evil spirits which are haunting the house from many years. He also adds that the ghost haunts everybody daily and is doing it because it wants the house to be deserted.

But the instinct of Malavika, who is professionally a police officer, is not convinced by Raj’s explanation. So she determines to make an investigation from the root cause of the whole haunting drama.

She investigates and also is on the verge of the victory, when the evil spirits kill her. Now, it is the duty of her daughter Malavika to find out the fact of her mother’s brutal murder.

To make the story twisted, another character enters the frame, who claims to be the lover of second Malavika (Daughter). But the entry of him makes the matter worse and also little confusing.

Then the most unpredictable happens, more deaths are taking place and the time is running, Malavika tries to find the cause of the so called evil spirits and the mysterious deaths. The suspense gets to the nerves of the audience and then?

The ending which is very well captured on camera must be seen on the big screen.

Performances

The whole film revolves around the heroine and her daughter and Malavika has done a justice to her dual characters by acting very well and getting into the skin of her role.

The glam image is simultaneously maintained by the actress and even after her recent marriage, she maintains her shapes and sizes very well. Wonder, whether she puts a sign board of TOUCH ME NOT in front of her husband in her bedroom.

The director must be given the full credit for making this film into a horror thriller. The starting and ending point are unpredictable and the art and the sound effects make a perfect amalgamation of horror filled suspense.

Though this movie is not for family viewing, but teenagers and adults will surely love it as there is suspense and thrill in this movie.
