This film has been totally powered by finance to make it a sure shot blockbuster of 2008. The visual effects and the capturing of scenes into frames are amazing and awesome. Kamal lives to his fans expectations and succeeds in mastering the 10 avatars with his impeccable acting and expressions.

Story

The films first frame showcases the on par conflict between the much praised vaishnavites and shivaites. And this whole scene is depicted to be a 12th century era. The vaishnavites are adamant on the opinion that their lord Vishnu is the supreme god and on the other hand the shivaites claim that lord Shiva is the supreme lord of the whole world. This is the main reason for the conflict between the two sects and is peppered by some social reforms which add some heat to the flame.

King Chola a staunch shivaite succeeds in killing Rangaraja Namibiar (Kamal) by tying him to a big idol of lord Vishnu and drowning him in the sea along with the statue.

Then the next frame of the scene shifts to the present world that is the 20th century. Govidrajulu who is nicknamed as Govind (Kamal) works as a scientist in USA techno lab. When the September 11th attack on the word trade center takes place, the USA government consulate dictates the scientist to prepare a chemical which can tame and tackle terrorism.
Govind happens to be one of the scientists who is among the team of scientists who develop the chemical which helps in tackling terrorism. Meanwhile his boss – the in charge of the scientist team has other ideas. He shakes hand with some evil pangs of the society and wants to sell them the chemical substance. But being a well natured guy, Govind makes the plan fail and succeeds in smuggling the chemical substance.
Govind is now chased by the villains in order to kill him and take the chemical substance into their hands. One of the villains is CIA agent Fletcher (Kamal). The vial is successfully smuggled into India and is couriered into India. Along with it Govind, Fletcher and a secret under cover lady CIA agent played by Mallika sherawat and onto Indian soil.

The courier reaches the vaishnav math and is addressed on the name of a old lady which another character played by Kamal Hassan. Asin happens to be the granddaughter of the old lady and Govind wants to take the vial of chemical substance into his own hands as it can destroy lacs of people if it goes into the hands of wrong persons.

Then the breath taking climax is framed. The old lady in order to save the people hides the vial in the statue of Lord Permal. But cunning natured Fletcher comes to know this and successfully grasps it. He drinks the chemical substance and soon an epidemic breaks out.

The climax is that how the people are saved from the epidemic and how the hero succeeds in ending the evil and saving the earth.

Performances

Kamal has proved that he is a versatile and superb actor in the whole India his 10 avatars of priest, pop singer, George bush, Fletcher, chief of Raw, social activist, old lady are impeccable and awesome . The apt get up to the role is truly applaudable and it can be said that only kamal can do this film without any hiccups.

Asin gave her role a real justification by playing as a chaste girl of Chidambaram. He another, but brief role as a wife of Rangaraja of 12th century is very appraisable.

Mallika Sherawat plays the role of a CIA agent with perfection. Her hot pole dance will surely raise the temperatures in the theatres. She adds the glamour element into the film and does her job very well.

The other characters played by Jayaprada and others are also apt and very well enacted.

Music by Himesh is good and the production and the world class graphic work is truly applaudable.

The storyline is pretty simple but is well weaved and thrilling. The suspense element is maintained from the beginning to the end. The lavish sets, locations, the costumes are worth mentioning. The words to narrate the scenes are truly very less as the scenes are very well framed. The twists and turns make the movie even more thrilling and suspense filled.

The Tsunami scenes in the 12 century are very well captured onto the camera and look realistic.

On the whole this film DASAVATHRAM is a super hit and will entertaining the audience to their hearts content.

Sequels are dicey business. No matter how much you improvise on your new script, you cannot escape comparisons. And when you attempt a sequel of a critically acclaimed film that’s a huge box-office grosser as well, it’s akin to walking on a tight rope.

Most importantly, post Ramgopal Varma ki Aag, Ramgopal Varma was everyone’s favorite punching bag (till Tashan dethroned RGV ki Aag) Finished, spent force, has-been, Pack up were commonly used terms for RGV.

Now here’s great news! Sarkar Raj supersedes the prequel and most importantly, RGV bounces back like never before. If you felt Shiva and later Satya were his finest efforts, you’ve got to watch Sarkar Raj. An outstanding film in all respects, this film has all it takes to emerge a major success story at the box-office and a landmark film in everyone’s careers.

Read Sonia Chopra’s review of Sarkar Raj | All about Sarkar Raj

When Anita [Aishwarya Rai Bachchan], CEO of Sheppard Power Plant, an international company, brings a power plant proposal to set up in rural Maharashtra before the Nagres, insightful Shankar [Abhishek Bachchan] is quick to realise the benefits the power plant can bring to the people.

After convincing Sarkar [Amitabh Bachchan], who is against it for various reasons, Shankar undertakes a journey along with Anita to the villages of Maharashtra to mobilise support from the masses.

However, things are not what they seem to be and Shankar’s dream project gradually becomes a political minefield. The evil forces, mightier than ever, mushroom and gang up to bring down the regime of Sarkar and obliterate Shankar’s name from the political horizon.

Sarkar Raj exudes a lot of power from the word ‘Go’. But let’s not categorize Sarkar Raj as yet another political film. Emotions and relationships run concurrently in those 2+ hours. What works in favor of Sarkar Raj is its tight writing. It’s not difficult to decipher the power play, but more importantly, there’s meat in the script. It leaves you awe-struck as the plot thickens. The film throws a number of surprises, but the best is reserved for the penultimate 20/25 minutes. The culmination to the story is simply fantastic!

RGV shines like never before. He takes to SARKAR RAJ with a vengeance. He has to prove that the sequel is better, he has to prove the detractors wrong too. While RGV has handled the subject with great expertise, you cannot ignore a few scenes that leave a lasting impact…
Ash’s first meeting with the Bachchans to explain the power project.
Govind Namdev trying to bribe Abhishek.
The Bachchans’ visit to Dilip Prabhawalkar’s residence.
The Bachchans’ discussion over Kay Kay [who was shot dead by Abhishek in the prequel].
The turning point in the film [not to be disclosed].
The penultimate reels when the real culprit stands exposed. It hits you like a ton of bricks.

Besides its strong content, Sarkar Raj has been filmed exceptionally well too. In fact, the film has the trademark RGV stamp in every sequence.

The review would be incomplete without giving the due credit to writer Prashant Pandey’s incredible and almost flawless script. Amar Mohile’s background score is topnotch. The by-now-famous ‘Govinda’ chant in the background only enhances the impact. Amit Roy’s cinematography is exceptional. The DoP succeeds in giving the film the raw-n-rustic look, which works very well. Action (Allan Amin), in minimal doses, is perfect.

Sarkar Raj is embellished with superb performances! Amitabh Bachchan, expectedly, comes up with a terrific performance. He’s as ferocious as a wounded tiger in the finale and takes the film to great heights.

First Yuva, then Guru, now Sarkar Raj. Abhishek Bachchan is cast opposite the finest actor of this country, yet he sparkles in every sequence.

This time, the father and son go neck to neck as far as acting honors go. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is fabulous and delivers her career-best performance in Sarkar Raj. Enough has been written about her looks, but not much space has been devoted to her performances. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas, Provoked, Guru, Jodhaa Akbar and now Sarkar Raj - she’s only got better with every film.

Every supporting actor in Sarkar Raj stands out - Dilip Prabhawalkar [superb], Govind Namdev [first-rate], Sayaji Shinde [perfect], Ravi Kale [terrific] and Supriya Pathak [good]. Tanisha is alright. The actor enacting the role of Dilip Prabhawalkar’s grandson makes a strong impact.

On the whole, Sarkar Raj is an exceptional film in all respects. At the box-office, it has all it takes to set new records in days to come!

          Kuruvi Review

KURUVI as expected is an action based film which was much hyped by the fans of Vijay and Trisha before its release. But the long wait does not yield better results as the story is a little bit dragging in the second half. But Dharani still manages to bring in some interest in the film in the climax. This is a sure to watch film for the die hard fans of Vijay. But to the other movie buffers it adds on as just an average movie in this summer. But Vijay’s GILLI is mirrored a little bit in this movie and the action and the scenes in the film depict some scenes in GILLI.

          kuruvi

          Story

Vetrivel (Vijay) alias KURUVI is a happy young dude. He is a cool guy and takes on life as it comes. He never dreams about his future and so accepts it as it is. Vetrivel lives on the banks of Cooum, which is near to a metro rail service. The filming of the banks of Cooum is done very well. Vetrivel lives in an old house along with his mother and her two sisters. The further narration explains that the three women are wives of Vetrivel’s father. His father’s character is played as Singamthu (Manivannan) who works as a collie in a mine in Cuddapah district. One unfortunate day Singamuthu disappears mysteriously from the work place.

Suddenly all the hell breaks on Vetrivel as one of the credits who gave some loan to his father warns to occupy the house of Vetrivel does not clear the debt. So due to the financial crisis in the house Vetrivel is forced to board to Malaysia as a Kuruvi.

Vetrivel soon succeeds in recovering some money from the villain Kocha (Suman) who was in debt to the hero’s father. Kocha betrayed Vetrivel‘s father for recovering a diamond from the mine and so Vetrivel succeeds in fetching back the debt money from Kocha.

But Kuruvi in an attempt to recover the money steals a precious diamond from Kocha. Meanwhile, Kocha’s sister Devi (Trisha) falls in love with Kuruvi and then elopes with him to Chennai to avoid a marriage with one of her brother’s followers.

The rest of the film runs behind how Kuruvi goes to Cuddapah and happens to discover the camp of slaves run by the villains at the mine.

Kuruvi metamorphosed into an eagle and then destroys the entire evil kingdom of Kocha and his associates and finally settles with his beloved Devi.

          Performances

Vijay has Kuruvi has done a superb job and his impeccable acting talent is a sure highlight in this movie. The action sequences and the dialogue delivery look very much apt to the Actor. His dancing talents are well exposed in this movie.

Trisha adds the glam quotient to the film. Her costumes and her sexy beauty is like a soothing breeze in the mid of action packed sequences.

Suman once again has made a mark in the kollywood with this movie. His villainy talent was well exposed in his previous movie Sivaji which featured Superstar as the hero. Now continuing the same kind of rating Suman has excelled as a true villain.

Music in this film is above average and melodious. Vidyasagar has lived up to the expectations.
The director Dharani must improve a lot in some departments. The story is unnecessarily dragged at the end in order to highlight the villain. But the climax of the movie is well carved.

On the whole this movie will surely run for 50 days mark. But more than that is only possible if Vijay’s fans take up an oath in making the film a blockbuster.

Cast: Ilayathalapathy Vijay, Trisha, Malavika, Suman, Vivek and others.

            PARUGU review

PARUGU fails to live to its expectations. Its dull story line and a dragging screen play make it even more sagging. But after watching the film one can easily conclude that this film’s story depicts the recent elopement case of Srija and Sirish and the totally agony which the megastar and his family faced during and after the whole elopement drama. Adding to it a few comedy scenes and songs is the whole story of PARUGU. Bhasker succeeded in bringing in the shades of his previous ‘Bommarillu’, but except that nothing new is tried in this film. It is a sentiment filled film of a father and a daughter.

            Story

The story begins with a scene which depicts Neelakanta (Prakash Raj) as a big land lord in a village. He is jolted by the news when he hears that his darling elder daughter Subba Lakshmi (Poonam Bhajwa) has eloped with her lover just few minutes before her marriage takes place.

So Neelakanta enquires and zeroes in all the friends of his daughter who are involved in the elopement and tries to figure them out.  One among them is Krishna (Allu Arjun). Neelakanta locks them up and warns them that they are going to be free when he finds his eloped daughter and her lover.

Meanwhile Krishna falls in love with the second daughter Meena (Sheela) of Neelakanta though Meena is a little bit reluctant in the beginning, but latter falls for the hero and soon they both fall in neck deep love. The whole love blossoming happens right in the house of Neelakanta, but he is ignorant about this.

Krishna decides to go for a wild goose chase to trace Subbalakshmi along with his tappori friends which are the characters played by Sunil, Chitram Seenu and others.
Meena is then enlightened by the fact that it was Krishna who helped her elder sister to elope with her lover and marry him. Neelakanta finally traces her, but she pleads her father to stop chasing her and her hubby.

Neelakanta goes back to his village and decide3s to perform his younger daughter’s marriage on a grand note, so that all the villagers will forget his elder daughter’s elopement drama.

Then enters the hero Krishna and his friends. What happens next? Will Krishna win the heart of Neelakanta (Prakash Raj) and will he succeed in marrying his beloved Meena is the conclusion which must be seen on the silver screen.

But all ends well finally on a happy note.

            Performances

Allu Arjun as a son of Jayasudha does his role with ease. Once again his dancing talent is a highlight in this movie. His dialogues and his expressions are some what realistic.

Sheela is just like a Dumbo. Like a village belly, she is just seen in some scenes.

Prakash Raj has once again proved that he is a versatile actor. Previously as a father to his loving daughter in ‘Nuvve Nuvve’ he stole the hearts of many audiences by acting superbly as a caring father. Now in the film the same care, love, sentiment is shown in every scene he acts. He perfectly blends into the skin of the character of a father with tow grown up daughters.

The comedy bandwagon with Sunil at the foremost is average.

Music by Mani sharma is average, but if the songs could have been better, the film would have had a 50 day run.

The director Bhasker on the whole tries to bottle an old wine in a new bottle. But his hard work this time goes in vain.

This film is entirely focused on Chiranjeevi’s family. Till date the elopement case of his daughter Srija was justified by the public and even some even went against Chiranjeevi as he did not support his daughter’s love which is total contrary to the film subjects he has dealt with till date.

But this film tries to make Chiranjeevi’s family and his deeds positive and totally focuses on the agony, he and his family faced by the society during the entire elopement drama which took place in last October.

Allu Arjun’s presence in the movie is more supporting to the fact that the entire Megastar’s family was against the elopement drama of Srija, but has been depicted in a positive way.

May be this film’s release is prior to the Chiranjeevi’s entry into politics and tries to justify Megastar’s deeds in the case of his daughter’s elopement. This is clearly visible in every frame of the film and has been portrayed in a well polished manner.

This film will surely be dragged till the 50 day mark by the Megastar and Arjun’s fans. Not more than that.
